What to Expect


An email will be sent to all students asking them to login to their new mail accounts. Your username and password will not change. If you do need to reset your password, use the password reset utility we have developed.



Preparing for the Migration to myLaurier Webmail


In order to make the transition to the new email system smoother, please complete the following steps:

1. Clean out your Inbox: 

Delete unnecessary emails. Deleting nonessential emails will shorten the time it takes to transfer your emails to your myLaurier account.
 
It is also important to note that your myLaurier Webmail account's maximum attachment size is 25MB. Any message stored in your GroupWise Inbox that contains an email attachment over the allotted 25MB will NOT be migrated over. If you would like to keep a copy of the attachment, save it to an external source such as a USB key, blank CD/DVD, or a folder that will not be migrated. 
 
Similarly, your myLaurier Webmail account does not allow executable files in emails, even if they are compressed (a .zip file). Emails in your GroupWise account that contain executable files will NOT be migrated over. As stated above, if you would like to keep a copy of the file, save it to an external source such as a USB key, blank CD/DVD, or a folder that will not be migrated. 
 
2. Make an external list of your GroupWise contacts:

Although your emails can be migrated from GroupWise to myLaurier Webmail your contact list cannot. As such, you are strongly  advised to write down and store the names of your contacts so they can later be entered into your myLaurier Webmail account.

3. Make an external list of your GroupWise calendar events

Like your contacts, GroupWise calendar events cannot be migrated to your new myLaurier Webmail account. As such, you are strongly advised to write down and store your calendar events so they can later be entered into your myLaurier Calendar.

4. Leave a signature on your current GroupWise emails that indicates you will be shifting to a myLaurier Webmail  account: 

Leaving a signature declaring that you will soon be moving to a new email address will warn your contacts in advance as well as create a more seamless transfer.



The First time you Login


The first time you login, you will be presented with the the option of migrating your GroupWise email to myLaurier Webmail.
If you choose to migrate your email, all mail items in your myLaurier inbox will be transferred to to myLaurier email inbox. The folders in GroupWise will be converted to Labels in myLaurier email.  
Your calendars and contact will not be migrated - please make sure you transfer these manually.
If you choose not to migrate at first login, you will have the option every time you log in until your account is disabled.


The day you Migrate


Once your emails are migrated, you can start using myLaurier webmail as your primary email system. Email sent to your GroupWise account will be automatically forwarded to your myLaurier Webmail account for the next 3 months.
This will also be a good time to start informing your friends that your email address has changed. 
If you think that your email was not migrated correctly, please repeat the migration process or contact the help desk.

Immediately after your Migration


Create your signature
Update/Share your Calendar
Inform your contacts of your new email address
Recreate forwarding rules if necessary
Comments
